In cooperation with the Southwest Florida Water Management District in recognition of the need to conserve water, the City of Brooksville adopted Ordinance 816, which limits unnecessary landscaped watering. FLOWER BEDS, VEGETABLE GARDENS, AND OTHER NON-LAWN AREAS

Irrigate as needed using hand watering, micro-irrigation, or other low-volume watering methods.


GOLF COURSES, ATHLETIC FACILITIES, CEMETERIES

Use IFAS/NRCS best management practices for turfgrass, landscaping and other water use activities that are essential to their operation.

  • No irrigation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any weekday, no irrigation is permitted on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) .
  • Raise mowing heights to the maximum acceptable level as a means of increasing grass drought tolerance.
  • Temporarily reduce the irrigation of each golf course fairway, rough, or non–play area and cemetery turf to no more that one application per week.
  • Temporarily reduce the irrigation of each golf course green and tee to no more than three applications per week.


AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS

All irrigation systems must be operated so that surface water runoff is eliminated according to best management practices. Overhead irrigation is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and must be reduced to the maximum extent possible.


INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS

Use best management practices for water use activities that are essential to their operation.

  • Temporarily curtail all water use activities which are not essential to their operation.
  • Eliminate the use of any fountain or other water feature that does not recycle water and does not provide a necessary water quality benefit.
